Jan. 10-12, 2025 San Diego Sabers Swept by Henderson Force

The San Diego Sabers had a rocky start to 2025 after they struggled to secure a win and were swept by Henderson Force in their three-game series against one another. Despite the struggles, the Sabers fought hard which led to some close games this past week.

Game 1 | Henderson Force 4, San Diego Sabers 2
After Henderson Force opened up the first period, this did not stop Sabers’ Jeremy Adkins from answering back and C. Liam Krupcyznski from extending their 2-1 lead by the end of the period. Despite finding momentum by the end of the first period, the Sabers were unable to recover after Henderson Force tied the game in the second period (2-2) and extended their lead by two-goals in the third period (4-2). Sabers’ goaltender, Mikhail Saratovtsev, saved a total of 32 out of 36 shots on goal and made a commendable effort to keep the Sabers in the game. Henderson Force took Game 1 of the series with a final score of 4-2 after their goaltender saved 28 out of 30 Sabers’ shots on goal.

Game 2 | Henderson Force 7, San Diego Sabers 4
Henderson Force carried their momentum from Game 1 into Game 2 of the three-game series and made it a 1-0 game by the end of the first period. Sabers’ Knut Hornkvist opened up the second period with a power play goal and momentarily made it a tied game (1-1). Henderson Force answered back with three goals but the Sabers did not back down as Sammy Albano cut their goal deficit by two-goals midway through the period (4-2). Henderson Force answered back quickly and made it a three-goal game by the end of the second period (5-2). The Sabers did their best to stay in the game as Aidan Cosgrove and C. Liam Krupcyznski both scored a power play goal early in the third period and momentarily made it a one-goal game (5-4). Despite the Sabers’ efforts, Henderson Force answered back with two goals which not only extended their lead but also secured a 7-4 win. Despite the loss, the Sabers ended the game with a total of 40 shots on goal and three successful power play attempts. Sabers’ Viktor Pasztor’s effort in net was commendable as he saved a total of 32 out of 39 shots on goal.

Game 3 | Henderson Force 5, San Diego Sabers 3
Henderson Force continued to take control of the third game and scored two goals before Sabers’ Payton Hauge answered back midway through the second period and momentarily made it a 2-1 game. Henderson Force then regained the lead with two goals scored after Hauge’s which extended their lead by three-goals (4-1). The Sabers were determined to stay in the game after Knut Hornkvist and Hauge scored late in the third period to make it a 4-3 game. Although the Sabers made a great effort, this did not hinder Henderson Force from securing their 5-3 win after scoring an empty net goal during the final minute of the third period. This loss for the Sabers does not take away from Parker Lewis’ goaltending efforts as he saved a total of 31 out of 35 shots on goal by the end of this game. The San Diego Sabers and Henderson Force both fought hard and ended with 36 shots on goal by the end of the third period, however, Henderson Force found success and were able to secure their Game 3 win.
Although the Sabers’ first three-game series of 2025 did not go in their favor, their efforts to stay in the game and remain resilient despite the hardships they faced were commendable. The team plans to train hard with the hunger to win fueling them for their next two games on Jan. 24-25, 2025.
