Sabers Nearly Swept the 2024-2025 Las Vegas Showcase!

The San Diego Sabers went up against teams from the North and Northwest USPHL Divisions on Dec. 18 - 21, 2024 and nearly swept the USPHL 2024-2024 Las Vegas Showcase (Pacific Division) this past week. Game 1 | San Diego Sabers 3, Isanti Outlaws 2
The Sabers maintained control during the first period of this game after Sam Bailey and Liam Krupcyznski both scored a goal and made it a 2-0 game. The Isanti Outlaws answered back on one of the goals, however, Aidan Cosgrove made it a two-goal game once again after scoring with 20 seconds left in the second period. The Isanti Outlaws did not go down quietly as they scored during the first half of the third period to make it a 3-2 game, still in the favor of the Sabers. Although the Isanit Outlaws made a great effort to overcome the Sabers, the team was unable to slip any additional goals past Sabers’ goaltender, Parker Lewis, who ended up saving a total of 33 out of 35 shots on goal. The game ended with a final score of 3-2 in the San Diego Sabers’ favor.

Game 2 | Seattle Totems 1, San Diego Sabers 0
Both teams struggled to slip a goal past each other’s goaltenders throughout the scoreless first and second period of the game. The Seattle Totems struck first and were able to maintain their one-goal lead despite the Sabers’ efforts to try to tie the game. In the end, the Sabers were shutout 1-0 by the Seattle Totems, however, the efforts of Sabers’ goaltender, Viktor Pasztor, were commendable as he tried to keep the team in the game with 41 out of 42 saves.

Game 3 | San Diego Sabers 5, Rogue Valley Royals 1
The Rogue Valley Royals opening up the first period with a goal a little over three minutes in lit a fire in the Sabers who ended up not only answering back but also extending their lead to 2-1 by the end of the first period. The two goals during the first period were both scored by Knut Hornkvist. The Sabers maintained control of the remaining periods with three unanswered goals which were scored by Liam Krupcyznski and Sam Bailey. The game ended with a final score of 5-1 in the Sabers’ favor. In regards to goaltending, the Sabers started the game with Viktor Pasztor in net and he saved 9 out of 10 shots on goal up until the last half of the third period. Ryan Doninger was given ice time and did not face any of the Rogue Valley Royals shots on goal. Collectively the Sabers goaltenders secured their win after facing a total of 10 shots on goal. The Sabers’ 53 total shots on goal and their strong goaltending performance secured the team’s win in this game.

Game 4 | San Diego Sabers 7, Iron County Yeti 2
Sabers’ Captain Liam Krupcyznski opened up the game with a goal scored early in the first period and Knut Hornkvist extended the Sabers lead to 2-0 against the Iron County Yeti before entering into the second period. C. Liam Krupcyznski scored two additional goals back to back with 33 seconds between one another which extended the Sabers’ lead to 4-0 and recorded his fourth hat-trick of the 2024-2025 regular season. Devlin Morgan closed out the second period with a goal in the latter half of the second period and momentarily made it a 5-0 game up until the Iron County Yeti answered back with two goals before the end of the second period (5-2). This did not stop the Sabers’ momentum as they regrouped and maintained control over the third period with two goals scored by Sam Bailey and Knut Hornkvist (7-2).
The San Diego Sabers had a rather successful USPHL 2024-2025 Las Vegas Showcase (Pacific Division) and should be proud of their performance this past week. They go into 2025 with a two-game winning streak and hope to keep that going when they come back and play in January.
