Dallas Stars vs. Winnipeg Jets 2025 Second Round Series Recap

The second round series between the Dallas Stars and the Winnipeg Jets came to an end after the Stars won the series, 4-2, in six games. After beating the Jets in Game 6 of the series, the Stars are scheduled to face the Edmonton Oilers once again in the Western Conference Finals of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The series went back and forth with a Game 1 win for the Stars on May 7, 2025 which ended with a 3-2 Stars' victory and was followed up by a Jets’ 4-0 shutout in Game 2. The Stars did answer back to their previous loss with back-to-back regulation wins in Game 3 (5-2) and Game 4 (3-1) of this second round series. On the verge of being eliminated, the Jets extended their 2025 playoff run with a 4-0 shutout in Game 5 of the series. An emotional Game 6 rolled into overtime after a long goaltending duel between Jets’ #37 Connor Hellebuyck and Stars’ #29 Jake Oettinger finally came to an end when the Stars won 2-1 with a power play game winning overtime goal scored by #55 Thomas Harley on May 17, 2025. The Stars secured their spot in the Western Conference Finals with their Game 6 win where they will be fighting for redemption in their rematch against the Edmonton Oilers.
The Stars’ points leader was #96 Mikko Rantanen (4G, 4A) who ended with 8 points by the end of the second round series. The four goals that were scored included a hat-trick recorded in Game 1 of this series. #55 Thomas Harley led the Stars with the most assists during the second round of the playoffs as he recorded 5A. In regards to goaltending, #29 Jake Oettinger ended the second round series with a 4-2-0 record and a 0.918 SV% after he saved 157 out of 171 shots on goal.
The Jets’ points leaders were #27 Nikolaj Ehlers (5G, 1A) and #81 Kyle Connor (2G, 4A) who both ended the second round series with 6 points. In regards to goaltending, #37 Connor Hellebuyck ended the second round series with a 2-4-0 record and a 0.905 SV% after he saved 124 out of 137 shots on goal.
In regards to stats, the Stars and Jets were relatively similar in total goals scored (13G Stars, 14G Jets) despite the Jets outshooting the Stars (171 SOG vs. 137 SOG). Although the Jets did play with more physicality (273 hits vs. 198 hits), they struggled to capitalize on their average man-advantages (12 PP% vs. 42 PP%) and on their average faceoff win percentage (46.68% vs. 53.32%) within the six games that were played against the Stars during this series.
The Stars’ overall ability to score on their man-advantages and overall scoring chances greatly benefited them during this series on top of the stellar in-net performance by their goaltender. These plays will be critical when they face the Edmonton Oilers in the Western Conference Finals for the second year in a row.
