This matchup took place at the Canada Life Centre and ended with a 4-0 shutout for the Jets. Read about what led to the Jets’ shutout victory, the standout players of each team, stats, and when their next game is scheduled!

Game Recap

The Jets fans at Canada Life Centre never lost hope during the two Stars power play opportunities which occurred during the first period as the Jets’ penalty kill unit and goaltender, #37 Connor Hellebuyck, remained solid and kept it a 0-0 game. The Stars penalty kill unit and goaltender, #29 Jake Oettinger, also played a steady game after killing off one Jets power play early in the first period. Although both teams had great opportunities to break the standstill, they entered the second period scoreless, 0-0.

Canada Life Centre came to life during the second period after #55 Mark Scheifele made it a 1-0 game for the Jets after banking the puck off the skate of Stars’ #55 Thomas Harley and into the back of the net during 4-on-4 hockey (1-0). The Stars’ penalty kill unit and goaltending by #29 Oettinger helped to keep the Jets scoreless after their opening goal which kept it a one-goal game going into the last period of regulation.

The Jets continued their goal-scoring momentum rolling with a power play goal scored by #27 Nikolaj Ehlers two minutes and twenty seconds into the third period (2-0). This power play goal was made possible when a Jets’ power play opportunity turned into 5-on-3 hockey after the Stars received back-to-back tripping penalties. After successfully killing off the third Stars’ power play, some extra curricular activity occurred behind the net which led to a Jets man-advantage. While on their power play opportunity, #7 Vladislav Namestnikov extended the Jets’ lead, 3-0, after slipping the puck as #29 Oettinger midway through the period. Tempers continued to flare which resulted in even more extracurricular activities occurring in front of the benches. It came to a surprise to many viewers when the Stars received a power play despite #14 C. Jamie Benn being the one to initiate all of the chaos that ensued. After finding themselves down by three-goals and remaining unsuccessful on their man-advantage, the Stars pulled their goaltender to have an extra attacker on the ice with a little over three minutes left in regulation. Unfortunately for the Stars, things did not go according to plan as #27 Ehlers secured an empty-net goal and made it a 4-0 game with forty-five seconds left in the period. The goaltending performance by #37 Connor Hellebuyck and the Jets’ overall ability to capitalize on their man-advantages helped them to force Game 6 in this second round series.
