Winnipeg Jets vs. St. Louis Blues 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs Series Recap (Round One)

The Round One series between the Winnipeg Jets and St. Louis Blues came to an end after the Winnipeg Jets won the series 4-3 in seven games. After beating the Blues in 2OT during Game 7 of this series, the Winnipeg Jets are scheduled to face the Dallas Stars in the second round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs.


The series started out with a strong start for the Winnipeg Jets as they won the opener with a 5-3 win on April 19, 2025. The Jets continued their momentum into Game 2 which resulted in an intense 2-1 win. The Blues came back with vengeance on home ice with a Game 3 (7-2) and a Game 4 (5-1) victory which caused the series to be tied 2-2. Although the Jets were able to regain their lead on home ice with a 5-3 win in Game 5 of this series, the Blues answered back and forced Game 7 after their 5-2 win in Game 6. The Jets were able to punch their ticket into the second round when #17 C. Adam Lowry scored the 2OT game-winning goal in Game 7 which was made possible after a huge comeback in the final minutes of regulation.   


The Jets’ points, goals, and assists leader in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs was #81 Kyle Connor who ended this series with 12 points (4G, 8A). In regards to goaltending, #71 Connor Hellebuyck was the Jets’ starter and ended the first round with a 4-3-0 record, a 4.42 GAA, and a 0.830 SV%. Goaltender, #1 Eric Comrie, did get some ice time during the third period of Games 3, 4, and 6 which ended with him recording a 1.40 GAA and a 0.923 SV%.

 

The Blues’ points and goals leader in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs was #17 Cam Fowler who ended this series with 10 points (2G, 8A). #89 Pavel Buchnevich led the Blues with the most goals scored after he recorded 3 goals by the end of the first round. In regards to goaltending, #50 Jordan Binnington was in net throughout the whole series and ended the first round with a 3-4-0 record, a 2.54 GAA, and a 0.901 SV%. 


In regards to stats, the Jets were able to maintain puck possession (193 shots vs. 166 shots), played a more physical game (330 hits vs. 310 hits), and had a higher average power play success rate (23% vs. 15%) despite the Blues outscoring (27G vs 21G) and having a higher average faceoff percentage (52.06% vs. 47.94%) in the seven games that they played against one another. 


The Jets’ ability to persevere through the hardships and feed off the electric energy when they played on home ice greatly benefited them in this series against the Blues. This unfortunate loss for the Blues does not take away from their commendable team efforts or the great goaltending performance of #50 Jordan Binnington.
