Game Recap

Amerant Bank Arena electrified when the Panthers opened up the first period with a goal scored by #13 Sam Reinhart (1-0). The Panthers' first goal of the game was made possible when #13 Reinhart capitalized on an Oilers’ turnover after they failed to clear the zone. Midway through the first period, the teams played 4-on-4 hockey for two minutes after a fight broke out behind the net. Although the Oilers did have a chance to tie the game with a couple great scoring chances, the score remained 1-0 in the Panthers’ favor after a set of remarkable saves by #72 Sergei Bobrovsky. With forty-seven seconds remaining in the first period, #19 Matthew Tkachuk made it a 2-0 game for the Panthers after he snapped a goal past Oilers’ goaltender #74 Stuart Skinner. The Panthers went into the second period with a two-goal lead after the Oilers struggled to answer back before time ran out in the first period.

The second period remained at a 2-0 standstill until the final two minutes when #16 C. Aleksander Barkov’s shot banked off the skate of #13 Reinhart (3-0). This goal was the only goal scored during the second period which made it a 3-0 game in the Panthers’ favor going into the last period of regulation.

With seven minutes left in regulation, the Oilers decided to pull #74 Skinner to have an extra attacker on the ice. Twenty-six seconds after the Oilers pulled their goaltender, #13 Reinhart scored the fourth Panthers’ goal of the game and made the score 4-0. The Panthers lead was then extended 5-0 after he recorded his second empty net goal two minutes after the fourth goal was scored. The Oilers were able to avoid being shutout with a goal scored by #92 Vasily Podkolzin with five minutes left in regulation (5-1). The Panthers win would not have been possible without the remarkable saves of #72 Sergei Bobrovsky and impressive effort of #13 Sam Reinhart, who recorded a hat-trick in Game 6.
