The Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars will face one another in the Second Round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs which will kick off on the Jets’ home ice at Canada Life Centre. The Jets have dominated the Stars and triumphantly won three of the four matchups played against one another during the 2024-25 regular season. Although the Jets have had the upper hand, the resilience of Stars will be what fuels them in this series.
Both teams enter the second round with momentum from their Game 7 wins in their first round series. The Stars ended their series against the Colorado Avalanche with a 4-2 victory which was made possible by the efforts of #96 Mikko Rantanen. During Game 7 of this series, #96 Rantanen recorded his first hat-trick of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs after he scored three impressive goals before the end of regulation. The Jets ended their seven game series against the St. Louis Blues in 2OT with an impressive goal scored by #17 Captain Adam Lowry.
The Jets’ points, goals, and assists leader in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs was #81 Kyle Connor who ended this series with 12 points (4G, 8A). In regards to goaltending, #71 Connor Hellebuyck was the Jets’ starter and ended the first round with a 4-3-0 record, a 4.42 GAA, and a 0.830 SV%.
The Stars’ points leader in this series was #96 Mikko Rantanen who ended the first round with 12 points (5G, 7A). In regards to goaltending, #29 Jake Oettinger was the Stars’ starter throughout the first round of the series and ended the round with a 4-3-0 record, a 2.85 GAA, and a 0.911 SV%.
Going into this matchup, the Jets ended the first round with a 23% average power play success rate which is lower compared to Stars’ 38% average power play success rate. The Stars ended the regular season with an 82.35% penalty killing success rate which is higher than the Jets’ 79.19% penalty killing success rate. Although the Stars were able to have a slight advantage in regards to puck possession (114 shots vs. 109 shots), the Jets’ physicality (128 hits vs. 0 hits), ability to outscore (13G vs. 6G) and outshoot (114 shots vs. 109 shots) the Stars was what helped them to win three out of the four regular season matchups against one another. The Jets also found more success with their average faceoff percentage (51.93% vs. 48.08%) and their average power play success rate (10% vs. 0%) when they played against the Stars.
The Stars, despite their previous challenges against the Jets, go into this series with vengeance and determination to make it to the Western Conference Final. On the other hand, the Jets go into these upcoming games with the utmost confidence to remain on top as they have in previous games against the Stars.
