The Vegas Golden Knights and Edmonton Oilers will face one another in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs which will take place on the Knights’ home ice at T-Mobile Arena. Both teams are evenly split in regards to wins against one another during the regular season (2-2). The Oilers did find themselves with the upper hand in the most recent games against the Knights which may be beneficial in this upcoming postseason matchup.  


The Knights and the Oilers both enter the second round of the 2025 playoffs with momentum from their 4-2 series lead. The Knights do go into the second round with a three-game winning streak while the Oilers go in with a four-game winning streak. 


The Knights’ postseason points leaders are #9 Jack Eichel (1G, 4A) and #48 Tomas Hertl (3G, 2A) who both recorded 5 points. #9 Eichel currently leads the Knights with the most assists while #48 Hertl leads with the most goals scored by the Knights in this series. In regards to goaltending, #33 Adin Hill was the Knights’ starter and ended the first round with a record of 4-2-0, a 2.83 GAA, and a 0.880 SV%. 


The Oilers’ points and assists leader was #97 C. Connor McDavid who ended the first round with 11 points (2G, 9A). #2 Evan Bouchard led the Oilers with the most goals scored during the first round (4G). In regards to goaltending, #30 Calvin Pickard became the Oilers’ starter after he took over in net for Games 3-6 and ended the first round with a 4-0-0 record, a 2.93 GAA, and a 0.893 SV%. 


Going into this matchup, the Oilers ended the first round with a 44.0% power play success rate which is lower compared to Knights’ 35.0% power play success rate. The Knights ended the regular season with a 76.92% penalty killing success rate which is higher than the Oilers’ 60.0% penalty killing success rate. When they played against one another during the regular season, the Knights and Oilers scored a similar amount of goals as the Knights scored 10 goals and the Oilers scored 11 goals. Despite the Knights outshooting the Oilers (115 SOG vs. 111 SOG), the Oilers found more success in their average faceoff percentage (51.70% vs. 48.30%) and on their average power play opportunities (25% vs. 16.67%) in the four games that were played. 


Although the Oilers look to have had the upper hand in the regular season, the Knights were able to hang in there and match the Oilers’ intensity. This upcoming series is highly anticipated with the statistics being relatively close.
