Game Recap
Rogers Place came to life when the Oilers struck a minute and twenty-seven seconds into the first period and made it a 1-0 game after a successful goal scored by #19 Adam Henrique. Shortly after the Oilers’ opening goal, tempers flared and the first fight in this series broke out when Oilers’ #21 Trent Frederic and Knights’ #14 Nicolas Hague dropped the gloves. The fight ensued after Oilers’ #13 Mattias Janmark tripped Knights’ goaltender, #33 Adin Hill, who initiated the chaos and led to the first power play opportunity for the Knights. Although the Oilers struggled to score after killing off the Knights’ power play opportunity, they were able to extend their lead after successfully scoring on their man-advantage in the latter half of the period (2-0). Chaos ensued once again after #19 Henrique scored the second Oilers’ goal of the game as a pile up occurred after Oilers'#91 Evander Kane fell onto the Knights’ goaltender. This resulted in penalties being handed out and another power play opportunity for the Knights. The Oilers penalty kill unit and goaltender, #74 Stuart Skinner completely shut down all of the Knights' power play opportunities which ultimately helped them to maintain their 2-0 lead going into the second period.
The Oilers momentum was not hindered despite a relatively slow start to the second period as #91 Kane extended the Oilers’ lead 3-0. #74 Skinner’s phenomenal performance in net for the Oilers helped to keep the Knights scoreless throughout the remainder of the period.
Knights’ goaltender, #33 Hill, displayed a commendable effort to keep the third period scoreless, however, with time running out and the team being down by three goals, this led to the coaching staff's decision to pull their #33 Hill in order to have an extra attacker on the ice. In the end, #74 Skinner remained solid in net, earned his 3-0 shutout, and secured the Oilers’ 3-1 lead in this series.
