Game 2 | Saturday, May 2, 2026 | Ottawa Charge 3, Boston Fleet 1
The Boston Fleet’s ability to maintain puck possession dominated the first period as they outshot the Ottawa Charge (12 SOG vs. 8 SOG). Despite being outshot, the Ottawa Charge ended the first period with a 1-0 lead after #88 Ronja Savolainen scored the first goal of Game 2. When it came to special teams, all power play units struggled against each other's strong penalty kill which remained undefeated going into the second period of regulation.
The Ottawa Charge’s goal-scoring momentum continued into the second period which helped them to gain an early 2-0 lead with a goal scored by #71 Fanusza Kadirova. Down by two goals, the Boston Fleet regrouped and cut their deficits down to one when #5 Megan Keller scored a much needed goal with ten seconds remaining in the period (2-1). Puck possession ended up being relatively equal with the Ottawa Charge having a slight advantage over the Boston Fleet (9 SOG vs. 8 SOG). The Ottawa Charge was the only team to have a couple chances on the power play which remained unsuccessful as they struggled against an undefeated Boston Fleet penalty kill unit.
Eager to tie the game, the Boston Fleet relied heavily on their abilities to maintain puck possession which resulted in another period of outshooting the Ottawa Charge (9 SOG vs. 4 SOG). Despite having this advantage, the Boston Fleet’s struggles to capitalize on their scoring chances plagued them throughout the third period. With time winding down and the Ottawa Charge maintaining their 2-1 lead, the Boston Fleet made the decision to remove their goaltender during the final minutes of regulation so they could have the man-advantage while they attempted to tie the game. Unfortunately for the Boston Fleet, their last push fell short as Ottawa Charge’s #17 Gabbie Hughes secured an empty net goal which ended Game 2 with a final score of 3-1. This vital win for the Ottawa Charge would not have been possible without the impressive goaltending of #33 Gwyneth Philips who saved 30 out of 31 shots on goal. Although the Boston Fleet fell short, their loss does not take away from the commendable in net performance of #31 Aerin Frankel who saved 18 out of 20 shots on goal. This series is now tied, 1-1, after the Ottawa Charge recorded their first win in the 2026 PWHL Walter Cup Playoffs.
