Game Recap

Rogers Place came to life when #29 Leon Draisaitl opened Game 4 with a power play goal and gave the Oilers a one-goal lead midway through the first period when his slap shot slipped past and Stars’ goaltender, #29 Jake Oettinger. After a back and forth battle, the first period remained stagnant until Oilers’ #92 Vasily Podkolzin received a roughing penalty with the last eight seconds remaining in the period. This late Oilers penalty gave the Stars their second power play opportunity of the game. Despite the Stars having a great chance to tie the game before time ran out, the first period ended with a 1-0 standstill due to the great save by Oilers’ #74 Stuart Skinner.

Although the Stars remained scoreless despite starting the second period with a minute and fifty-two seconds left on their man-advantage, their power play goal drought ended when #21 Jason Robertson scored a minute and five seconds into their third power play attempt of Game 4 (1-1). Despite finding some momentum, the Stars’ shortly found themselves down by one-goal when #90 Corey Perry capitalized on their man-advantage and made it a 2-1 game midway through the period. #74 Skinner was able to maintain the Oilers’ one-goal lead going into the last period of regulation as the Stars struggled to get any goals past him.

The Stars’ one-goal deficit and overall momentum completely diminished when Oilers’ #42 Kasperi Kapanen and #19 Adam Henrique both secured an empty net goal during the last two minutes of regulation (4-1). After a hard-fought battle, the Oilers are now one win away from advancing into the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals after their 4-1 win against the Stars in Game 4 of this Western Conference Finals.
