Oct. 23-26, 2024 San Diego Sabers Game Recap

The San Diego Sabers faced the Lake Tahoe Lakers at Carlsbad Icetown on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 for Game 1 of the three-game series. After the Sabers lost 6-2 against the Lake Tahoe Lakers, the team traveled to the Iceoplex Simi Valley for Game 2 which resulted in a triumphant Sabers’ 7-1 win. The Sabers closed out the three-game series with a 5-1 win against the Long Beach Bombers at Carlsbad Icetown on Saturday, October 26, 2024. 


Wednesday, October 23, 2024 

Game 1: Lake Tahoe Lakers 6, San Diego Sabers 2

The San Diego Sabers’ two-game winning streak ends after an unfortunate loss to the Lake Tahoe Lakers. Although Sabers’ Sam Bailey was able to answer back with a power play goal and momentarily make it a 1-1 game after the Lakers struck first, the Sabers were unable to answer back on additional 2 goals scored before the end of the first period (3-1). Knut Hornkvist answered back when the Lakers scored another goal early in the second period to cut the Sabers’ goal deficit to two goals (4-2). The Sabers made a commendable effort to make a comeback in the third period, however, their momentum was hindered by their unsuccessful power play attempts. The Lakers ended up scoring two more goals in the third period which ended with a final score of 6-2 in the Lakers’ favor. Viktor Pasztor was in net for the San Diego Sabers and saved a total of 44 out of 50 shots on goal. Overall, the Sabers did try their best and hoped to be able to get back on track in Game 2 of this three game series.

Game 2: San Diego Sabers 7, Ventura Vikings 1

The Sabers’ started the game with a strong push and dominated the first period with three unanswered goals scored (3-0). The three goals in the first period were scored by Bryce Alexander, Knut Hornkvist, and Aidan Cosgrove. Their momentum was carried into the second period and the Sabers scored an additional 3 goals which were left unanswered (6-0). The three goals in the second period were scored by Tristan Andrews, Sam Bailey, and Tristan Andrews. Sabers’ Devlin Morgan extended their lead to 7-0 after scoring halfway through the third period. The Vikings answered back late in the third period, however, the game ended with a final score of 7-1 in the Sabers’ favor. Mikhail Saratovtsev was able to secure the win for the San Diego Sabers after saving 21 out of 22 shots on goal. Joshua Arsenault was in net for the Ventura Vikings and saved a total of 24 out of 30 shots on goal before Brasco Cirillo took over in the third period and saved 5 out of 6 shots on goal. The Sabers made a huge comeback from their unfortunate Game 1 loss and won Game 2 with vengeance.

Game 3: San Diego Sabers 5, Long Beach Bombers 1

The Sabers’ Liam Krupcyznski answered back and tied the game with a short handed goal after the Long Beach Bombers struck in the first 3 minutes of the period 1 with a power play goal (1-1). The Sabers continued to shut down any of the Long Beach Bombers’ chances throughout the remainder of the game as they maintained control and took advantage of their power play opportunities. Sabers’ Briar Dickson scored in the first half of the second period (1-1). Aidan Cosgrove closed out the second period with a power play goal (3-1) and opened up the third period with another power play goal which extended the Sabers’ lead by three goals (4-1). Briar Dickson closed out the game with one last goal in the third period which made the final score 5-1 in the Sabers’ favor. Mikhail Saratovtsev was able to secure the win for the San Diego Sabers after saving 34 out of 35 shots on goal. This win has extended the Sabers’ winning streak to a two-games.  


Despite having a tough Game 1 against the Lake Tahoe Lakers, the Sabers made a huge comeback in both Game 2 and Game 3 of their three-game series. The Sabers do not have any scheduled games this week, however, they will work hard to prepare and continue their winning streak in their upcoming game against the Long Beach Bombers.
