The Lake Tahoe Lakers and Ontario Jr. Reign will face one another in the Premier Playoffs 2025 which will take place on the Lakers’ home ice at South Lake Tahoe Ice Arena. The Jr. Reign had the upper hand when they faced the Lake Tahoe Lakers during the regular season. Although the Lake Tahoe Lakers did struggle in the past against the Jr. Reign, their fight and determination to remain strong and fight through the hardships will be what aids them in this series.
The Lakers enter the playoffs with momentum from their five-game winning streak that they were able to end the regular season with. The Jr. Reign also will be entering the playoffs with momentum from a seven-game winning streak.
The Lakers clinched the 2nd place playoff spot and the Pacific Division by ending the regular season with 69 points and an impressive season record of 33-10-2-1. Their leading scorers during the regular season were #21 Brian Erte who ended the season with 89 points (28 G, 61 A) and #23 Jose-Jasmir Guseff who ended with 78 points (35 G, 43 A) recorded in the regular season.
The Jr. Reign were able to secure their spot in the playoffs when they clinched the 3rd place in the Pacific Division standings and concluded the regular season with 68 points and a 33-11-2-0 season record. Their leading scorers during the regular season were #85 Denver Craig who had 88 points (38 G, 50 A) and #13 Luke Cannon who had 52 points (21 G, 31 A) recorded in the regular season.
Going into this matchup, the Lakers ended the regular season with a 24.86% overall power play success rate which is lower compared to Jr. Reign’s 30% overall power play success rate. The Jr. Reign ended the regular season with an 89.15% overall penalty killing success rate which is higher compared to Lakers’ 83.26% penalty killing success rate. When they played against one another during the regular season, the Jr. Reign remained strong in regards to maintaining puck possession (199 SOG vs. 172 SOG) and found more success than the Lakers when they capitalized on their power play opportunities (5.56% PP vs 17.4% PP). Although the Jr. Reign did have the upper hand over the Lakers, both teams were relatively similar in regards to the amount of goals scored between one another as the Jr. Reign ended their regular season against the Lakers with 15 G and the Lakers ended with 14 G.
Lake Tahoe Lakers, despite their previous challenges against the Ontario Jr. Reign, go into these match-ups with vengeance and the hunger to win against the Jr. Reign. On the other hand, the Jr. Reign goes into these match-ups with confidence and determination to advance to the Premier Finals for a second year in a row.
