Dec. 7, 2024 - Sabers Beat Out the Long Beach Bombers!

The San Diego Sabers faced the Long Beach Bombers on home ice at Carlsbad Icetown. This game resulted in a 5-4 win for the Sabers and Knut Hornkvist recording his second hat-trick of the 2024-2025 regular season.

Game 1 | San Diego Sabers 5, Long Beach Bombers 4

San Diego Sabers’ struck first with a goal scored by Knut Hornkvist 48 seconds into the first period (1-0). The Long Beach Bombers answered back quickly with a power play goal to make it a tied game until Knut Hornkvist extended the Sabers’ lead and made it a 2-1 game going into the second period. This momentum would be carried out during the first half of the second period as Sabers’ Sam Bailey scored two goals and momentarily made it a 4-1 game. The Long Beach Bombers answered back with two power play goals in the latter half of the second period which made the teams go into the third period with a score of 4-3 still in the Sabers’ favor. Sabers’ Knut Hornkvist capitalized on their man advantage after the Long Beach Bombers received a cross-checking penalty to make it a two-goal game during the first half of the third period. Although the Long Beach Bombers did answer back, their last push to tie the game and force overtime fell short as Sabers’ goaltender, Viktor Pasztor, was able to secure the win for the San Diego Sabers after saving 39 out of 43 shots on goal. The Sabers ended with 28 successful shots on goal out of 33 shots by the end of this game. An outstanding acknowledgement to note was that Sabers’ Knut Hornkvist's three goals during this game not only greatly contributed to their win but also recorded his second hat-trick of the 2024-2025 regular season. 

The San Diego Sabers’ successful game against the Long Beach Bombers has fueled the determination to keep winning and recording more milestones during the 2024-2025 regular season.
