Ventura Vikings’ 2024-2025 USPHL Pacific Division Regular Season Recap

The Ventura Vikings ended the USPHL 2024-2025 regular season with 35 points and a season record of 16-27-2-1. Out of their 16 wins, one of them included one shootout victory, three shutouts, and one double-digit win. The longest winning streaks that the Ventura Vikings were able to maintain were two different five-game winning streaks. The first one occurred during the week of the Las Vegas Showcase and ended during the week of Jan. 9-12, 2025 when they faced the Bakersfield Roughnecks. Their second five-game winning streak started during the week of Feb. 7-9, 2025 and helped the Vikings close out their regular season on a high note. 


PP & PK Success Rate and Top Scorers

The Ventura Vikings ended the regular season with a 22.33% power play success rate and a 73.76% penalty killing rate. Their top scorers were #7 Louis Allen who had 27 points (14 G, 13 A) while with the Vikings and #12 Kelson Wuttunue who had 29 points (10 G, 19 A) recorded by the end of the regular season.

Players of the Week and Players of the Month

As of March 5, 2025 there have been a couple Ventura Vikings players that were named the Players of the Week and Players of the Month during the 2024-2025 regular season. This included the following players:

Players of the Month

  • Kai Tsoar (Forward) and Jett McCullum (Defensemen) were amongst the group that were named the Players of the Month in December, 2024. 

  • Defensemen, Jett McCullum, was amongst the group that were named of the Players of the Month in January, 2025.


Goaltending

In regards to goaltending, four of their goaltenders were active during the season. The stats include: Ethan Sellwood’s 7 wins out of 11 games and a 0.894 SV%; Zachary Follo’s 3 win in 15 games and 0.871 SV%; Joshua Arsenault’s 11 wins out of 13 games and a 0.863 SV%; and Brasco Cirillo’s 5 wins out of 24 games and a 0.861 SV%. 


Against the rest of the Pacific Division:  

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. San Diego Sabers (SDS)

    • VNV won two out of six games against SDS during the 2024-2025 regular season (2-4). SDS outshot (227 SOG vs 194), outscored (33 G vs. 22 G), and found more success on the power play (25% PP vs. 12.5% PP) when they played against VNV.  

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Ontario Jr. Reign (OJR)

    • VNV struggled against OJR who won all six games against VNV when they faced one another during the regular season (6-0). OJR swept VNV and dominated in regards to puck possession (274 SOG vs 157 SOG) and in overall goal scoring (48 G vs 21 G). OJR was also stronger on their power play (33.3% PP vs. 27.8% PP).

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Long Beach Bombers (LBB)

    • VNV won four out of six games against LBB during the regular season (4-2). Previous games between VNV and LBB were fairly close in regards to total goals scored (27 G for VNV and 22 G for LBB). However, LBB outshot VNV (211 SOG vs. 159 SOG) and had more successful power play outcomes (38.5% PP vs. 18.8% PP) despite falling short by the end of the games which went in favor of VNV. 

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Fresno Monsters (FRM) 

    • VNV struggled against FRM who won all six games against VNV when they faced one another in the regular season (0-6). FRM swept VNV in the regular season after they dominated in their previous games (270 SOG vs. 112 SOG), took control over goal scoring (46 G vs 9 G), and remained strong on the power play (30.4% PP vs. 19.0% PP).

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Lake Tahoe Lakers (LTL) 

    • VNV struggled in the three games that they played against LTL during the regular season as LTL completely swept VNV (0-3). LTL had a very dominant presence during the regular season which led to LTL leading in goals scored (30 G vs. 11 G), shots on goal (169 SOG vs. 77 SOG), and power play success rate (27.8% PP vs. 12.5% PP). 

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Bakersfield Roughnecks (BKR) 

    • VNV and BKR ended the regular season evenly split in regards to wins against one another (3-3). Despite being very close in regards to total goals scored (30 G for BKR and 29 G for VNV), BKR outshot VNV (22 SOG vs. 199 SOG) while VNV found more success on the power play compared to BKR during their regular season matchups (31.3% PP vs. 19.2% PP).

  • Ventura Vikings (VNV) vs. Henderson Force (HNF)

    • VNV won two out of six games against HNF during the regular season (2-4). During these games, HNF led VNV in goals scored (27 G vs. 17 G), shots on goal (226 SOG vs. 167 SOG) and successful power play rates (19.4% PP vs. 13.3% PP).


Although the Ventura Vikings did not make it to the 2024-2025 USPHL Playoffs, this does not take away from their efforts during the regular season. The Vikings did their best and had some memorable moments during the season which they should be proud of. They will come back next season even stronger and determined to place higher in the standings and get a chance at the playoffs!
