Edmonton Oilers vs. Florida Panthers (GAME 4)
The Edmonton Oilers won Game 4 in the 2025 Stanley Cup Finals against the Florida Panthers on June 12, 2025. This matchup took place at Amerant Bank Arena and ended with a 5-4 overtime win for the Oilers. Game Recap
The energy in Amerant Bank Arena electrified in the latter half of the period after #19 Matthew Tkachuk capitalized on two power play opportunities which gave the Panthers a 2-0 lead. The Oilers struggled to answer back, especially after Panthers’ #15 Anton Lundell scored their third goal of the game with fifty-two seconds left in the period (3-0). Panthers’ goaltender, #72 Sergei Bobrovsky, was able to hold off the Oilers from cutting their goal deficit and maintained their three-goal lead going into the second period.
After struggling in the first period, the Oilers regrouped and were able to answer back to all three of the Panthers’ goals and tied the game going into the last period of regulation (3-3). #93 Ryan Nugent-Hopkins started the Oilers’ goal-scoring momentum with a power play goal scored three minutes and thirty-three seconds into the period (3-1). The Oilers’ deficit was cut down to one-goal after #25 Darnell Nurse scored the Oilers’ second goal of the game (3-2). The last unanswered goal by the Oilers during the second period was scored by #92 Vasily Podkolzin with five minutes remaining in the period (3-3). In regards to goaltending, #30 Calvin Pickard, took over in net at the start of the second period after #74 Stuart Skinner allowed three goals during the first period.
The goaltenders battled it out in the third period and kept it a tied game until the latter half of the period. The Oilers’ first goal was scored by #96 Jake Wallman who ultimately gave them their first lead of Game 4 (4-3). With time in regulation running out and being down by one-goal, the Panthers pulled their goaltender to have an extra attacker on ice during their final push to tie the game. The Panthers' decision worked in their favor as they were able to capitalize on their man-advantage with a goal scored by #13 Sam Reinhart during the final twenty seconds of the game. This last goal scored by the Panthers late in the third period forced the teams into their fourth overtime of the series.
Although both teams had great opportunities to take Game 4 earlier in overtime, the Oilers got the job done and tied the series, 2-2, with a game winning overtime goal scored by #29 Leon Draisaitl.
