The Sabers will take on the Bakersfield Roughnecks at Valley Childrens Ice Center this Friday, January 31, 2025 at 7:30 PM PST and Saturday, February 01, 2025 at 7:30 PM PST. The Sabers have had the upper hand in the previous matchup against the Roughnecks (3-0) and hope to keep that momentum going into this two-game series.
In their two-game series this past weekend, the Sabers swept their previous two-game series against the Ventura Vikings and Long Beach Bombers. The Bakersfield Roughnecks fell to the Lake Tahoe Lakers in Games 1 and 2 but were able to secure a win in Game 3 of their previous three-game series. After a successful week for the Sabers and the Bakersfield Roughnecks ending on a win, both teams are even more determined to win this weekend.
The San Diego Sabers are currently in 5th place with 40 points in the Pacific standings and have a season record of 20-14-0-0. Their leading scorers are Knut Hornkvist who has 74 points this season and Liam Krupcyznski who currently has 72 points.
The Bakersfield Roughnecks are currently in 2nd place with 20 points in the Pacific standings and have a season record of 14-19-2-2. Their leading scorers are Christopher Larochelle who currently has 43 points and Nolan Smith who currently has 40 points this season.
Going into this matchup, the San Diego Sabers have an overall power play success rate of 17.93% which is very similar to the Bakersfield Roughnecks’ 17.5% overall power play success rate. The Bakersfield Roughnecks have a 75.28% overall penalty killing percentage which is lower than the Sabers’ 80.88% overall penalty killing percentage success rate. The Sabers may sweep this two-game series against Roughnecks as they have in the past despite the Roughnecks outshooting the Sabers (148 SOG vs 118 SOG). The Sabers do have a slightly higher power play success rate (20% PP vs 16.7% PP) and have outscored BKR 16 G vs. 12 G in their previous three matchups against one another. It may come down to whoever is able to take advantage of their power play opportunities and goaltending.
The Sabers go into this week’s matchups with the momentum from their two-game winning streak and their determination to secure a spot in the playoffs fueling them in this series against the Bakersfield Roughnecks.
