Feb 21-22, 2025 Sabers Two-Game Series Game Recap

The San Diego Sabers struggled against the Ontario Jr. Reign and the Ventura Vikings this past week. Their unfortunate losses does not take away from their commendable attempt to try to close their two-game series this past week with a win.

Game 1 | Ontario Jr. Reign 9, San Diego Sabers 0

The Jr. Reign completely dominated the Sabers in Game 1 as they took control and scored 3 goals during all three periods of the game. The Sabers were unable to answer back on all nine Jr. Reign goals, despite having 22 shots on goal, which made the game end with a final score of 9-0 in the Jr. Reign’s favor. This loss does not take away from Parker Lewis’ performance in between the pipes as he saved 38 out of 47 shots on goal by the end of the game.

Game 2 | Ventura Vikings 6, San Diego Sabers 3

After a scoreless period, the Ventura Vikings were able to open up the second period and get on the board first after a successful power play opportunity. Sabers’ Knut Hornkvist tied the game with a successful power play goal, however, the Vikings answered back 9 seconds later to regain their one-goal lead (2-1). The Sabers struggled to answer back to the 2 additional goals which the Vikings closed the second period with to extend their lead (4-1). The Vikings opened the third period with a goal and the Sabers did their best to regain momentum with two goals which were scored by Sam Bailey and Sammy Albano late in the third period (5-3). The Sabers were unable to answer back when the Vikings scored the last goal of the game with less than three minutes left in the third period. Although the Vikings won with a final score of 6-3, the Sabers’ effort to stay in the game with their 44 shots on goal and Parker Lewis’ 28 out of 34 saves during this game were commendable. 


These two losses continued the Sabers’ losing streak which has hindered and ended their race to the playoffs. Although the Sabers are out of the race, this does not take away from their efforts during their games and they have a chance to end the 2024-2025 regular season on a high note with their upcoming matchups!

  • The San Diego Sabers will face Henderson Force on Saturday, March 01, 2025 at 8:00 PM PST. This game will be located at Carlsbad Icetown. 

Sunday, March 02, 2025

  • The San Diego Sabers will face Henderson Force on Sunday, March 02, 2025 at 1:00 PM PST. This game will be located at Carlsbad Icetown.
