Winnipeg Jets vs. St. Louis Blues (GAME 5)
The Winnipeg Jets won Game 5 in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the St. Louis Blues. This game took place at Canada Life Centre and ended with a final score of 5-3 in the Jets’ favor.
The Canada Life Centre was electrified after Jets’ #81 Kyle Connor opened up Game 5 with a goal that gave the Jets a 1-0 lead a minute and twenty-three seconds into the first period. The Blues quickly answered back with a game-tying goal scored by #26 Nathan Walker a little over a minute after the Jets’ opening goal (1-1). The Blues’ game-tying goal did not hinder the Jets’ momentum which continued to persevere and led to #62 Nino Niederreiter re-gaining the Jet’s one goal lead before the halfway point of the period (2-1). Both goaltenders, #37 Connor Hellebuyck (Jets) and #50 Jordan Binnington (Blues), remained solid in the latter half of the period and kept it a 2-1 game in the Jets’ favor despite all of the multiple man-advantages resulted from the built up tempers which flared throughout the period.
The Blues took advantage of the momentum from their successful penalty kill unit and used it to score the game-tying goal in the first half of the second period (2-2). A little over three minutes after #21 Jimmy Snuggerud’s game-tying goal, the Jets regained their one-goal lead and made it a 3-2 game with a wrist shot goal scored by #2 Dylan DeMelo. After a series of hits and great scoring chances by both teams, the score remained at a standstill until Jets’ #7 Vladislav Namestnikov extended the team’s lead with a goal scored in the final minutes of the second period (4-2).
Despite both teams having great scoring opportunities, the impressive goaltending performances from Jets’ #37 Hellebuyck and #50 Binnington kept the score 4-2 until the last five minutes of the third period. Jets’ #17 C. Adam Lowry extended the team’s lead by three-goals after he slipped the puck past #50 Binnington and made it a 5-2 game. The Blues’ last push in regulation did lead to them cutting their goal deficit by two-goals after #26 Walker scored in the final minute of the game (5-3). Unfortunately for the Blues, their last efforts in the period was not enough to offset the Jets’ 5-3 win. This game has helped the Jets to regain the lead in this series (3-2) and created more pressure for the Blues in Game 6.
