Winnipeg Jets vs. St. Louis Blues (GAME 4)

The St. Louis Blues won Game 4 in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Winnipeg Jets. This game took place at Enterprise Center and ended with a final score of 5-1 in the Blues’ favor.

The first period kicked off with multiple scoring chances and a couple power plays which remained unsuccessful as both goaltenders and penalty kill units maintained control of the game. It wasn’t until Jets’ #81 Kyle Connor broke the 0-0 standstill and made it a 1-0 game in the latter half of the period. With twenty-two seconds left in the first period, #63 Jake Neighbours was credited the game-tying goal after he tipped #55 Colton Parayko’s shot under the bar of the net to make the score 1-1 going into the second period.

The Blues’ momentum carried into the second period as they scored three unanswered goals and made it a 4-1 game. The goal-scoring streak started off when #75 Tyler Tucker slapped a one timer past Jets’ #37 Connor Hellebuyck which helped the Blues’ to gain their first lead of Game 4 (2-1). Although the Jets’ penalty kill unit was able to successfully kill off a Blues’ power play opportunity, #10 C. Brayden Schenn found the puck during a scramble in front of the net and made it a 3-1 game for the Blues. One minute and thirty-one seconds after #10 C. Schenn’s goal, #72 Justin Faulk made the score 4-1 going into the third period after his slap shot hit the backside of the Jets’ #4 Neal Pionk and bounced into the back of the net. Blues’ goaltender, #50 Jordan Binnington, maintained his strong performance in net and ended the second period with a 100% save percentage.

#1 Eric Comrie took over in net for the Jets two minutes into the third period after #18 Robert Thomas made it a 5-1 game for the Blues when he froze #37 Hellebuyck and secured the team’s four-goal lead. The remainder of the period remained scoreless after #18 Thomas’ goal as both goaltenders remained solid throughout the rest of the game. One concern that did come up for the Blues was when #75 Tucker had to be helped off the ice after being injured in the last five minutes of regulation. After this injury, tempers flared between the Jets and Blues Captains who both received a game misconduct for their extra curricular activities. Tempers continued to flare as a scrum broke out in the final minute and a half of the game which resulted in a power play opportunity for the Blues. Although goaltender #1 Comrie was able to keep it a scoreless period while the Blues had the man-advantage, the Jets’ overall performance was not enough to stop the Blues from securing their 5-1 win. This win for the Blues tied the series 2-2 and forced Game 6.

LA Kings vs. Edmonton Oilers (Game 4)

The Edmonton Oilers won Game 4 in the first round of the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs against the LA Kings and forced Game 6 in this series. This game took place at Rogers Place and ended with a 4-3 overtime win for the Oilers.

The Kings and Oilers had some great scoring chances at the start of a physical Game 4 but were unable to get any pucks past #35 Darcy Kuemper (Kings) and #30 Calvin Pickard (Oilers) up until midway through the first period. #12 Robert Moore got the Kings on the board after he went five-hole and successfully scored the opening goal of this game (1-0). Despite being down by one-goal, the Oilers’ penalty kill unit greatly helped #30 Pickard to keep it a 1-0 game as they were able to kill off two Kings power play opportunities by the end of the period.

#37 Warren Foegele kept the Kings’ momentum rolling in the second period by capitalizing on an Oilers turnover and scoring the goal which extended the team’s lead by two-goals, 2-0. With time winding down, #90 Corey Perry successfully scored on the Oilers’ first power play opportunity of the game after batting the puck out of the air, getting it down onto the ice, and perfectly shooting the puck into the back of the net to make it a one-goal game (2-1). The Kings answered back with a goal scored by #22 Kevin Fiala late in the second period and regained their two-goal lead (3-1). Although both teams did have a power play opportunity towards the end of the period, no goals were successfully scored which kept the game 3-1 in the Kings’ favor going into the third period.

The score during the beginning of the third period remained at a standstill despite the Kings and Oilers going back and forth with scoring chances which were denied by Kings’ #35 Kuemper and Oilers’ #30 Pickard. It wasn’t until the Oilers’ #2 Evan Bouchard capitalized on a broken play by the Kings to cut their deficit by one-goal eight minutes into the period (3-2). The Oilers last push with an extra man on the ice after pulling #30 Pickard in the final minutes of the game was successful as #2 Bouchard scored the game-tying goal with forty-four seconds left in regulation to force overtime with a 3-3 game.

Similar to the third period, the Kings and Oilers went back and forth with great scoring chances, however, the Oilers did find themselves maintaining puck possession throughout the duration of overtime. Rogers Place buzzed with excitement when the Oilers found themselves on the power play with two-minutes and twenty-six seconds left in overtime. #29 Leon Draisaitl was able to score the game winning power play goal after erasing their deficit in the third period. This Oilers 4-3 overtime win does not take away from #35 Kuemper’s efforts in net for the Kings as he made a set of remarkable saves before the end of the game. The Kings and Oilers are now tied 2-2 in this series and forced Game 6 after the Oilers overtime win.
