Game 1: San Diego Sabers 5, Long Beach Bombers 4
The San Diego sabers kicked off this week’s three-game series with a hard-fought win against the Long Beach Bombers. Although the Long Beach Bombers struck first, the Sabers came back with vengeance with goals scored in the second scored by Knut Hornkvist and Liam Krupcyznski. Former Saber and now a member of the Long Beach Bombers, Jackson Litzinger, scored late in second to tie the game 2-2 which led to the teams going into the third period with a tied game. Hornkvist carried the momentum from the second period into the third and scored two more goals which completed his first hat-trick of the 2024-2025 regular season. Sammy Albano extended the Sabers’ lead to 5-3 with a power play goal in the later half of the third period. Long Beach Bombers’ Magnus Lowham also recorded his first hat-trick of the regular season which greatly contributed to the 4 total goals scored by the Long Beach Bombers, however, it was not enough to surpass the Sabers’ lead. The Sabers fought hard for their win and improved on capitalizing on their power play opportunities this game with a strong goaltending performance from Carson McDonald.

Game 2: San Diego Sabers 6, Bakersfield Roughnecks 3
After a tough first period which ended with them being down by two goals, the team dug deep and found determination to keep pushing through the hardship and took control of the second period. Aapo Jaakkola opened up the second period with an unassisted goal which put the Sabers on the board. This was followed by 3 more unanswered goals scored by Sammy Albano, Briar Dickson, and Liam Krupcyznski. The score going into the third period was 4-2 and that quickly changed after Sam Bailey and Aapo Jaakkola scored and extended the Sabers’ lead (6-2). The Roughnecks cut the four-goal deficit to three goals after answering back late in the third period but their attempt to make a comeback was not enough to overcome the Sabers goaltender, Viktor Pasztor’s, valiant performance during this matchup. Despite finding themselves in the box more than the Roughnecks, this did not hinder the Sabers’ penalty kill and stellar goaltending performance during the second and third period of the game. The Sabers are on a two-game win streak after Game 2 in this three-game series.

Their three-goal lead returned back to a two-goal lead after the Ventura Vikings scored with 31 seconds left in the second period which ended with a score of 4-2. Sammy Albano scored the game winning goal 15 seconds into the third period and Caleb Murray scored the insurance goal within the first 5 minutes of the period (5-2). Sam Bailey and Liam Krupcyznski both scored two goals in the third period which greatly contributed to their 10 goals scored in Game 3 of the series. The Ventrua Vikings were able to slip two more goals past Sabers’ goaltender, Parker Lewis, late in the third period, however, this last push was not enough to make a comeback which ended the game with a final score of 10-4 in the Sabers’ favor. After the victorious 10-4 win, San Diego Sabers’ Head Coach, James Spaargaren, commented about how he is, “Super proud of the boys.
