Montréal Victoire 4-0 shutout wins the Walter Cup!

A goaltending duel between Montréal Victoire’s #35 Ann-Renée Desbiens and Ottawa Charge’s #33 Gwyneth Philips kept Game 4 quiet throughout the first period. It wasn’t until late in the third period when #35 Ann-Renée Desbiens and the Montréal Victoire’s penalty kill unit were challenged by the Ottawa Charge’s power play unit. Although the Ottawa Charge had a great opportunity to get on the board first, their struggles against the Montréal Victoire’s special teams trickled into Game 4 which ultimately contributed to the scoreless standstill being maintained. After twenty minutes of regulation, these teams entered the second period of regulation, 0-0, despite the Montréal Victoire outshot the Ottawa Charge (6 SOG vs. 5 SOG). 

The scoreless standstill was finally broken by Montréal Victoire’s #11 Abby Roque who scored the first goal of this game three minutes and forty-nine seconds into the second period (1-0). Although the Ottawa Charge had another opportunity on the man-advantage, they remained stagnant against a solid Montréal Victoire penalty kill unit. Similar to the first period, the Montréal Victoire were able to maintain puck possession throughout the second period of regulation (6 SOG vs. 5 SOG). 

Despite outshooting the Montréal Victoire (13 SOG vs. 4 SOG) and having another opportunity on the power play, the Ottawa Charge remained scoreless while the Montréal Victoire mustered a three-goal scoring streak during the last period of regulation. The Montréal Victoire third period scoring streak was kicked off by #11 Abby Roque who scored an unassisted short-handed goal midway through the period (2-0). This was then followed up by #91 Maggie Flaherty giving the Montréal Victoire a 3-0 lead during the latter half of the third period. With five minutes remaining in regulation, Montréal Victoire’s #25 Lina Ljungblom closed out the team's goal-scoring streak with an unassisted goal secured (4-0). After a thrilling third period, #35 Ann-Renée Desbiens recorded the Montréal Victoire’s second shutout of the 2026 PWHL Walter Cup Playoffs after saving all 23 shots on goal in Game 4 of this series. This loss for the Ottawa Charge does no take away front he commendable in net performance of #33 Gwyneth Philips who saved 12 out of 16 shots on goal. After a jaw-dropping Game 4 finish, the Montréal Victoire have secured a 3-1 series win!
