This matchup took place at the Amerant Bank Arena and ended with a Canes 3-0 shutout. Read about what led to the Canes’ win, the standout players of each team, stats, and when their next game is scheduled!

Game Recap

The first period ended with a scoreless standstill (0-0) after the impressive in net performances by Panthers’ #72 Sergei Bobrovsky and Canes’ #31 Frederik Andersen. Although both teams had great scoring chances throughout the first period with a couple man-advantages and moment of 4-on-4 hockey, each team struggled to generate any goals by the end of the first twenty minutes of the game.

The fans at Amerant Bank Arena buzzed when the Panthers killed off an early Canes power play and remained hopeful until midway through the second period. The atmosphere in the arena intensified when #22 Logan Stankoven gave the Canes their first lead in the Eastern Conference Finals after his right handed shot slipped into the top corner of the net and made it a 1-0 game. Despite the Panthers great opportunities to tie the game, #31 Andersen remained solid in net for the Canes and maintained their one-goal lead going into the last period of regulation.

The Panthers continued to struggle against the Canes’ penalty kill unit as they failed to score within the remaining eleven seconds left on their man-advantage from the final minutes of the second period. The Panthers fans held their breath when Paul Maurice challenged the Canes’ second goal of the game for offside. Upon further review, the goal was waved off as it was determined to be offside which reverted the score back to 1-0 with thirteen minutes and thirty-three seconds left in regulation. This upset for the Canes did not hinder their momentum as they went on to kill off another Panthers man-advantage, make game-changing blocks, and denied multiple rebounds. Down by one-goal, the Panthers decided to pull #72 Bobrovsky in the final three minutes of regulation in order to have an extra attacker on the ice. Within a span of twenty-six seconds, Canes' #20 Sebastian Aho and #11 C. Jordan Staal extended the Canes' lead, 3-0, with back-to-back empty net goals. The outstanding efforts by the Canes defense and in net performance by #31 Frederik Andersen helped them to shutout the Panthers, 3-0, and force Game 5 in this series.
